Classic homemade Pesto and Pisto recipe

First, the question – Pesto or Pisto? What is the difference? Pesto it’s made with basil, olive oil, parmesan, one or a few cloves of garlic and pine nuts. Pisto is exactly the same, however, without the nuts.

Pesto (pisto)

This is a classical Pesto recipe with pine nuts, if you want to make Pisto instead, simply skip the nuts.

  • 200 gr Fresh basil
  • 200 gr Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 2 gr garlic
  • 100 gr Parmigiano
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 30 gr Pine nuts toasted, when making pesto


  • Wash and clean the basil. Place the basil, EVO, peeled garlic, grated Parmigiano, salt and pepper and toasted pine nuts in the food processor or blender and blend everything until smooth and homogeneous mixture.
  • If you go for Pisto, simply skip the pine nuts.
